Registration is now CLOSED

The Registration deadline is TODAY (11/03/06). You can no longer register online, and registration is closing. If you have not yet registered, you MUST call the Alumni Office ASAP. You can reach them at the number below, or send an email to alumni@jsu.edu Again, please do so as soon as possible. NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE TAKEN AFTER THURSDAY NOVEMBER 9th!

The pre-registration phase for the Reunion is now closed. If you have not yet registered, and need to do so, you will now need to contact the Alumni Office directly. You can contact Nancy Turner at (256) 782-5404 or send her an email at nturner@jsu.edu. She will be able to handle your registration.

Instruments for the Reunion Performance

If you are a band director that has some instruments that you can loan Alumni for the Reunion, we invite you to contact us with your information. These will be checked out to the Alumni for the rehearsals and performance, then checked back in after it is complete. We would like to borrow the following instruments:

Mellophones
Baritones
Tubas
Snares
Tenors
Bass Drums
Cymbals

What to Wear for the Reunion

For the Reunion, we are asking all Alumni to wear their Red Jackets (to be given at Registration), Khakis and comfortable shoes. Ballerina Alumni are encouraged to wear their Santa Boots, if you have them. As well, if you would like your families to join you on the field during halftime, please have them wear a red jacket (or red shirt) and khakis.

REUNION INFORMATION UPDATED 10/02/06

MARCHING SOUTHERNERS 50TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Friday, November 10, 2006 & Saturday, November 11, 2006

REGISTRATION: The first step is to go to the Marching Southerners website – www.marchingsoutherners.org – and register as a user on the forum. There is a link on the home page (top, right hand corner). Click on this link and fill out the member information. After registering as a user, please click on the 50th Reunion link to register for the reunion. Once you have followed this two-step process, your information will be forwarded to the alumni office. The alumni office will mail a registration form to you at the address of your on-line registration.

Friday & Saturday Events (November 10 & 11, 2006)
$30.00 - Alumni: Friday night meal, a RED wind breaker, a CD, a lapel pin, and GAME ticket.
$9.00 - Spouse/guest: Friday night meal and GAME ticket.
$5.00 - Child (5-12 years old): Friday night meal and GAME ticket. Children under 4 – FREE

Saturday ONLY Events (November 11, 2006)
If you are only able to attend the Saturday events, please contact the Alumni Office as soon as possible for instructions and information. You may contact them via email at alumni@jsu.edu or 800-231-5291 Ext 5404 or 256-782-5404.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 3. (Form must be received at alumni office)
Please note: There have been 1000 RED wind breakers (with 50th Reunion Logo) ordered for the reunion. Once registration is complete, the remaining wind breakers will be available for purchase at $12 each.

GENERAL INFORMATION: (As of October 2, 2006)

DRUM MAJORS: You will perform at halftime by conducting from the front sideline. There are horn parts and audio files of the halftime production “Southerners-Yesterday, Today, Forever” on the website. If you prefer, you can play an instrument during halftime.

GUARD: You will perform at halftime. A video file will be posted on the website in the next few weeks which shows the flag work for the halftime production “Southerners-Yesterday, Today, Forever”. Representatives will be at the regional rehearsals to help teach the flag work. If you have a flag from when you marched, please bring it. Everyone will be on flag – no rifles or sabers. If you do not have a flag, we will provide one for you. We will also provide flag poles. When you take the field, the line up will consist of current guard members and alumni guard members alternating every other spot. (Current, alumni, current, alumni, etc.)

BALLERINAS: You will perform at halftime. A video file will be posted on the website in the next few weeks which shows the choreography for the halftime production “Southerners-Yesterday, Today, Forever”. Representatives will be at the regional rehearsals to help teach the choreography. If you have your boots with tassels, please bring them to wear during halftime. We would like all of the ballerinas to wear white gloves. If you do not have any gloves, they will be available for purchase at $3.00 per pair. When you take the field, the line-up will consist of current ballerinas and alumni ballerinas alternating every other spot. (Current, alumni, current, alumni, etc.) We look forward to the ballerinas representing a tradition that has lasted fifty years!

PERCUSSION: You will perform at halftime. The on the field cadence “Spider” will be posted on the website this week for the battery. The drumline and front ensemble parts for halftime production “Southerners-Yesterday, Today, Forever” will be posted on the website this week. Battery - Please bring your own equipment. Front Ensemble – Instruments will be provided. The traditional stand tunes music will be taught at the regional rehearsals on October 22, 2006 and at the Friday night rehearsal on November 10, 2006. (Fight Song, Salvation, Stars Fell, Southerners Special, and Quilting Party). The Star Spangled Banner and Alabama are on the website, however; you will not be performing these two tunes.

INSTRUMENTALISTS: You will perform at halftime. The music to “Southerners-Yesterday, Today, Forever” is posted on the website. Dr. Walters was commissioned to compose a new warm-up chorale, “Episode 50”, in honor of the anniversary. Music to the chorale will be posted on the website soon. You will also be performing in the stands during the game. (Fight Song, Salvation, Stars Fell, Southerners Special, and Quilting Party). This music is posted on the website. The Star Spangled Banner and Alabama are on the website, however; you will not be performing these two tunes.

MISCELLANEOUS: The audio file for “Southerners – Yesterday, Today, Forever” that is on-line now is a midi file. We will be reading the piece with the current band this week. The live recording will be posted next week.

If you would like your families to join you on the field during halftime, we welcome them. If possible, please have them wear a red jacket or red shirt.

REGIONAL REHEARSALS: Band directors will run the music rehearsals. We will have a ballerina and guard instructor at each regional to teach the choreography and flag work. We will also have a percussion instructor at each regional to teach percussion music for the halftime production and traditional stand tunes.
